TeachWell strengthens teacher professional development in Kenya by integrating proven pedagogical approaches with national education standards. Our Teacher Continuous Capacity Development (TCCD) model supports effective classroom practice through the following technical approaches:

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Teachers' Training Manual
The TeachWell Project understands that there can be no effective nurturing of student’s well-being by teachers if the well-being of the teacher is not being supported. The project therefore seeks to enhance teachers’ capacity, confidence and emotional resilience in order to create the conditions for transformative learning. In line with the above premise, the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Training Manual was developed to equip teachers in Kenyan refugee camps with practical tools, methods and knowledge to assist the psychosocial well-being of learners while at the same time focusing on their own mental health. The manual contains information regarding how to identify signs of distress in both learners and teachers, how to develop a safe and supportive learning environment, and how to apply appropriate psychosocial intervention in the context of refugee settings.
Crisis Modifier Framework for Primary And Junior Secondary Schools In Garissa And Turkana Counties
The Crisis Modifier (CM) provides a flexible and adaptive mechanism to safeguard the progress achieved by TeachWell (TW) activities, empowering clients to avoid negative coping mechanisms. It will allow the IRC and partners to respond quickly to anticipated or observed crises while addressing the root causes of people's vulnerability to shocks and stresses. The CM is designed to enhance teacher and student retention and ensure school business continuity. The design of the CM is informed by relevant policies and manuals of the Government of Kenya (GoK), Ministry Global Alliance for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience in the Education Sector (GADRRRES), and other humanitarian standards.

Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC – Kenya)

Learner-centred, competency-based instruction focused on developing skills, values, and real-life application

Kenya’s CBC focuses on what learners can do with what they know, emphasizing the development of core competencies, values, and practical skills through continuous, activity-based learning.

  • Develop core competencies such as communication and collaboration, critical thinking and problem-solving, creativity and imagination, citizenship, digital literacy, learning to learn, and self-efficacy

  • Promote learner-centred, participatory teaching methods that encourage exploration, inquiry, and practical application

  • Use continuous assessment to monitor learner progress and provide feedback

  • Support learners to demonstrate competencies through projects, tasks, and real-life applications
